Mission Statement

The mission of the Charter School Policy Institute (CSPI) is to become the independent authority on Texas charter school policy and a significant contributor to the national charter school dialogue. CSPI adopted a four part mission to: 1.Promote the value of increased competition within the public school system. 2.Assemble, organize, and disseminate unbiased information on the development of charter schools as a viable public school option for students and parents. 3.Foster public discussion and research on the policies governing the development and performance of public charter schools. 4.Encourage the transfer of charter school innovations throughout the entire public school system.

Public Forums: The Institute will host a series of town hall style events. Original Research and Analysis: CSPI will provide analysis of existing research on critical public school choice issues as well as conduct original research on the essential elements of quality public charter schools. Online Community: CSPI hosts a moderated web log (blog). Media Watch: The Institute website provides analysis of state and national charter news and takes periodic snapshots of media coverage - measuring stories for neutral, positive, and negative content. Fellows Program: Graduate level researchers interested in policy development and issue management are selected by CSPI to conduct original research, document and develop case studies, support and interact with the online community, and manage other information and policy projects. Online Legislative Library: The CSPI website includes a database of all school choice laws, by state, with relevant analysis and a policy-at-a-glance US map for quick reference.
