Program 1

California Gold Rush History

Our California Gold Rush History program takes students into the Sierra Nevada foothills to Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, home to California's largest hydraulic mine site from the California Gold Rush. During the program students, teachers, and parent chaperones partake in gold panning, a tour of the hydraulic mine, nature and group building games, and tours of the cemetery and ghost town of North Bloomfield. Along with the academic portion of the program focused on the area's Gold Rush history is the nature living portion that takes participants outside for multiple nights and brings them closer to nature, in order to help them foster a sense of stewardship for the Earth.

Program 2

California Coastal Science

FIELDGUIDES offers coastal science programs at varied locations along California's Central and Northern coastline. These programs offer activities and information such as tide pooling, waterway cleanups, California Native Indian History, and trips to lighthouses, bird observatory stations, and the Monterey Bay aquarium. Different programs combine different activities depending on teacher request and content desired. Along with the in field exploration is family style camping for all participants; sleeping in tents, eating outdoors, and sharing in all activities in a communal atmosphere. FIELDGUIDES blends educational content and environmental appreciation in a way we believe instills participants with a sense of stewardship and respect for nature, and leaves them with an experience they will remember for a lifetime.
