Mission Statement

The specific purpose for which the IIT Bombay Heritage Fund is organized are to fund and promote education and research among students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The organization will achieve its goals by providing financial and other resources towards the Indian Institute of Technology. IITBHF’s vision was best articulated by Dr. Suhas Director of IIT Bombay, who said that "I dream of an IIT which never forgets that it has a tryst with excellence".

EDUCATION

IITBHF is helping fund major education initiatives at IIT Bombay in all departments and schools. Alumni with the help of IITBHF have been instrumental in funding new schools such as the Kanwal Rekhi School of IT, Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, Center of Innovation, and in enhancing infrastructure and teaching in core engineering departments such as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Library endowment fund has been set up to provide access to journals to stay abreast with the latest advancements in science and technology.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

IITBHF funds the Faculty Development Fund which is used to support international travel by faculty members related to professional pursuits and dissemination of research results.

The “Young Faculty Joining Bonus” project focuses on supporting the goal of attracting outstanding young faculty members to replace retiring.

STUDENT AID

The IITBHF Scholarship Fund is set up to provide scholarships to deserving post-graduate and under-graduate students at IIT Bombay.

IITBHF helps support the Financial Aid Program (FAP) that provides soft loans at minimal interest rates to needy students.

 

 INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

A major donation by Victor Menezes (‘70) is helping IITBHF support the construction of the Victor Menezes Convention Centre which will contain Lecture Halls, Lounges, Conference Hall, and other facilities for meetings and conferences.

Another major IITBHF supported initiative is the Student Gymkhana (gymnasium) project which includes an Indoor Stadium, an Olympic size swimming pool, and a small stage that can be used for cultural programs.

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

IITBHF is assisting IIT Bombay in increasing collaborations with leading international technology universities and research centers in the US.

IITBHF is helping an IIT Bombay alumnus, Romesh Wadhwani, fund and establish the Wadhwani Research Center for Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Bombay.
