Various Programs

Asha for Education(TM) www.ashanet.org - has more than 1000 active volunteers across 68 different chapters worldwide. Since its inception, Asha has supported over 400 different projects in many states of India.
Perhaps, more important than these numbers is the personal leadership that the volunteers take in carrying out Asha's activities. Further, involvement with Asha has produced an awareness about developmental issues in India and has inspired a whole range of volunteers to get involved in other social causes. Thus, Asha, while making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children of India, is also preparing a group of people who are more socially aware and socially responsible in their lives.

Clearly, identifying, researching, owning, funding, and sustaining projects has formed the core of Asha's activities till now. Asha raises funds for its projects in a number of ways: individual donations, corporate donations, sale of merchandise (T-shirts, calendars, mugs, greeting cards, etc.), fundraising dinners, Indian classical music and dance concerts, popular music concerts and many others. In the process, we also promote Indian culture over here. There are 3 key ashawide events - Work an Hour (WAH-an online fundraiser to donate at least an hour's worth of salary), Notes of Hope (NOH-a concert series) and Team Asha (TA-marathon training program).

Some Asha chapters also work towards raising awareness in appropriate forums about various issues affecting the people of India. This awareness-raising is accomplished by organizing discussion series, invited talks and study groups. Asha also acts as a network for various grass-roots workers and volunteers and non-governmental organizations.

If you would like to find out more about us, our activities, and, if you would like to participate and contribute to our efforts in any way, please contact members of the chapter nearest you (www.ashanet.org/contacts.php). We want you to be part of the movement!

ORGANIZATIONAL DEMOGRAPHICS

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
