Greenhouse Project

Donors are able to multiply their gift through sustainable agriculture.

Heroes
of the Nation recently constructed two new greenhouses on the campus. These
greenhouses provide fresh fruits and vegetables for our kids. Extra
produce is sold and the revenue created provides a job for greenhou estaff and pays for the upkeep of the greenhouse. This is truly a sustainable agricultural model.
HTN now wants to expand this proven model and build two more greenhouses on the campus.
Donors will
see ongoing results through the construction of these two greenhouses.

Charting Impact

Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To see the 530 children on our campus receive quality education, care, and housing.
To support graduates emotionally and financially as they pursue college, university or vocational training.
To launch small businesses that support the campus financially, helping it to become self-sufficient.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We provide an excellent education to our students through a private school on campus. We perform national-level examinations multiple times a year in order to track the students' progress.
We fundraise in order to provide for our graduates.
The most successful business in Kenya is currently a private high school (paying students cover the expenses for entire operations). We also have a medical clinic in town. We plan to hire a business manager who will launch and oversee additional businesses in Kenya.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have the capability to feed, house and educate over 500 children on our campus. Our staff in Kenya consist of teachers, caregivers and cooks. The director of our orphanage campus previously oversaw a school with 1,000 students so she has the vision and experience needed to propel the organization forward.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
Student test scores are compared to the surrounding district. Last year, our primary school tested at the top tier in the district.
Graduate reports on students who are pursuing further education give us a framework for effectiveness.
Child reports on existing students who are supported through a child sponsorship program allow us to track the growth and progress on individuals.
Business reports from Kenya show revenue and allow us to make decisions for expansion or contraction.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
Our school in continuing to hire qualified individuals who can effectively offer a quality education to our students in Kenya. The students in primary school are performing at a top level in the district. We are awaiting the reports for the high school in order to measure effectiveness.
Our program is growing to include younger children - in 2013 we admitted 50 new children who were in dire need of assistance.
