Mission Statement

The mission of Hands on History is to bring the American Revolutionary War to the doorstep of the disadvantaged and low income students through out the state of Massachusetts. The American Revolution is an integral part of every school curriculum, and is woven into the fabric of New England history. It is also true, that the current economic situation has forced educational facilities to cut back on off site field trips due to restricted budgets. Even in the best of times , school districts rarely have the funding for such trips. Hands on History is just what it says. We bring over $50,000 worth of original 18th century artifacts, and reproductions to an in house field trip. The students get to wear the uniforms of George Washington's Army, British Army of King George III, French Army of King Luise XVII, German Army of King Frederick, and touch every artifact brought to the presentation. Students are immersed in the life ways of the Continental Soldier, and come away with a full understanding of what it took to win the freedoms of a new nation.

Funding Needs

Most pressing needs: A box truck for transporting and housing an ever expanding collection--estimated at $10,000 for a used vehicle. Hire Staff Administrator---the volume, and time it takes to write grant request, proposals, applications, reimbursement forms, and all the required electronic filing of this data is a significant --it takes away from our time to educate. estimate this need at $25,000 per year. Find matching funds ( 2,500) to complete our arts program with the 1st Art Gallery agreement

Principal Officer

Mr. Denis Edward Cormier

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"History has always been recognized as one of the most difficult studies in the K-12 School Districts. In fact , many studies have been performed on this part of our state wide curriculum due to low retention scores. In short, students have a difficult time retaining nothing but data points !! Dates, States,Countries, Kings, Commanders, Titles, Names, Documents, locations, and an endless vocabulary list. It is well known through out the academic community, that students learn at a very specific rate. It is also known, that when the hands on process is implemented, retention increases by double digits. It is also know that if you add the visual aspect of education personel, retention increases again by double digits. In short, our program has been confirmed by many school districts, Superintendents, History Teachers, Directors of Curriculum, PTO Coordinators, Enrichment Groups, and more, as being extremely affective at getting students to retain the subject matter of our American History.
