Program 1

Our flagship project is Zoey's Room (www.zoeysroom.com), a nationally acclaimed online community that increases girls? interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). In just three years Zoey?s Room has grown to more than 500 girls in 25 after-school clubs from coast to coast. The impact of Zoey?s Room is evident in our evaluations. In the 05-06 school-year, we had 300 girls participating. After being in the program for one year, 53% of the participants were more interested in technology than before they started, 70% said they would consider a career that required using computers, and 50% said it increased their knowledge base about computer technology. In addition, Zoey?s Room raises the bar for online community safety by using a cutting edge dual verification system where parents and a local community organization such as a school each confirm the participant?s identity and built-in security features throughout the online community. The results? 100% of girls surveyed feel safer in Zoey?s Room than any other online community. PSF is now replicating Zoey's Room to address educational gaps for additional demographics. Aggregating information and research from our online learning collaboratives, PSF also conducts educational workshops and seminars for the community- through online and public forums.
