Funding Needs

Bootstraps sees the need for multi-year scholarships in order to have a more significant impact on the youth served. Research shows that once a student no longer receives financial aid, they are more likely to drop out of college. Additional funding is required to expand to offer more multi-year scholarships. Additional funding is also needed for Interest-free Loans to Continuing Students. Most students need more than the $1,000 currently offered so that they do not have to resort to other student loans carrying interest rates of 3.4% or more.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"All of the scholarships and loans that are awarded by Bootstraps are funded by the community through donations. When a donor makes a donation of $800 or more for a scholarship or loan, Bootstraps contributes 25% in matching funds (up to $1,000) making the value of the award even greater. Potential recipients complete a common application which includes demographic information as well as essays. Completed applications are reviewed by the Bootstraps Awards committee, made up of members from the all volunteer board of directors. This process ensures that the donors wishes are given top priority when selecting recipients."
