Principal Officer

Mr. Daniel O'Brien

BIO

Prior to returning home to HMI, Danny served as the Assistant Director of the Upper School at Greensboro Day School, a preschool-12th grade day school in North Carolina. At GDS, he oversaw student life and helped promote authentic and experiential learning opportunities for students within the school's curriculum. Danny also served on accreditation teams for the Southern Association of Independent Schools and as a consultant to the College Board. Before his sojourn South, Danny wore many hats in his six years at HMI. He began his career teaching history and also served as Director of Admissions and as Acting Head of School. The HMI Semester set records for application numbers and reached full enrollment for the first time during Danny's tenure as Director of Admissions. Before coming to HMI, Danny developed his shared passion for education and the outdoors while working at The Island School and leading outdoor trips for Camp Pemigewassett, Overland Adventures, and Longacre expeditions. He received his B.A. from Middlebury College and his M.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
