Mission Statement

The Pranayama Institute, Inc. is dedicated to education to end divisiveness on a global scale by introducing the unifying ontological theory of self and the science of pranayama. These principles and practices speak directly to the very foundations of all religions.

We have been working tirelessly for almost two decades toward ending all forms of divisiveness that have plagued humanity for countless millennia. We have successfully designed and fine-tuned a system that is not only far-reaching in distance, but also efficiently reaches the hearts and minds of people struggling with the fundamental questions of life. We specifically seek to expose not only religious extremism and divisiveness, but all forms of gender hegemony disempowering women, economic centralized power disfranchising entire swaths of the human race, and all dogmas discriminating based on lifestyle choices.

While our educational modality reaches those already disillusioned with organized religion and seeking an alternative theory of reality, it is even more powerful in helping people who question and challenge themselves and who strongly hold onto their religious beliefs, fueled by dogma and fanaticism, justifying crime and warfare in the name of God.

In the last twenty years, we have benefited students, readers, and researchers in over seventy countries.

The Pranayama Institute, Inc. published the highly acclaimed and best-selling "spiritual masterpiece" God Without Religion by Sankara Saranam, which is now in its tenth-anniversary second edition. It won five coveted awards and reached #3 on Amazon's best-seller list. The book deconstructs organized religion, offers a fresh perspective on history, and delves into the rich spiritual philosophy behind pranayama, engaging a revolutionary approach to the ancient science of yogic self-mastery. God Without Religion has helped thousands of seekers around the world and is endorsed by nearly forty experts and celebrities.

The Institute is also the parent company of the production network Permanent Waves TV, dedicated to providing the public with popular entertainment. PWTV provides the Institute with a sound financial foundation for its charitable services. Some shows, starring Sankara Saranam, will also include a resource on pranayama, encouraging their audiences to expand the sense of self in the context of otherwise comedic content. Principal Officer

Mr. Sankara Saranam

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"Sankara Saranam is the world's foremost expert on the ancient yogic science of pranayama (mind and body control through concentration and breath regulation). His teachings on pranayama have spanned the globe for twenty years, refining and clarifying the techniques of sense-introversion for students and teachers alike.

He is the multi-award winning and internationally published author of God Without Religion, now in its second edition, published by BenBella Books.

Sankara Saranam is also a science fiction novelist with the forthcoming book, Permanent Waves, Volume I.

As a poet, he has written the ecstatic poem Invisible, soon to be published with original art.

Sankara Saranam is the founder of and an actor in Permanent Waves TV, which launched in early 2016, and is the executive producer of its audio and video recording studios. He is further a virtuoso guitarist, recording artist, composer, and lyricist, having released two albums, Fusion-Fission and Shameless Hook.

He graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in Religion and a minor in Hebrew. He went on to earn his masters from St. John's College in Santa Fe in Eastern Philosophy and Religion, with a minor in Sanskrit. Earlier, he was an Aerospace Engineering major at the University of Michigan and a classically trained guitarist at the Manhattan School of Music.

In the early 90s, Sankara Saranam was a monk in the Giri branch of the Swami Order founded by the famed 20th century yoga master Paramahansa Yogananda. It was there that he learned advanced principles of pranayama, later developing techniques to suit a variety of uses for people from all walks of life.

Sankara Saranam is an expert on world religions and mysticism. While residing in Israel, he wrote Yoga and Judaism, showing the links between the mystical tradition of the Hebrews and those of the ancient Indian yogis.

His book, God Without Religion, deconstructs various religious and mystical traditions, exposing their basic principles and translating them into a more scientific approach to self-knowledge.

His studies of mysticism, religion, cosmology, and physics lead him to a theory of reality called the theory of self. According to him, one of the few ontological philosophers alive, existence is, at bottom, awareness and the substance of reality is the expansion of the sense of self.

Sankara Saranam is an international lecturer and workshop leader, having given classes on pranayama and his theory of reality around the world. He has touched the lives of readers and students from over seventy countries.

Sankara Saranam devoted his adult life to ending the divisiveness that goes hand in hand with centralized power, seeking ways to peacefully bridge the present to a future where women are empowered, outmoded social institutions no longer divide the human race, and the challenges facing present day humanity are addressed with sustainability and respect for the natural world in mind."
