GED Preparation

RCLP uses the guidelines set by the State of Arizona in testing adults and youth to determine their skill level in reading, math, and language arts. Then an individualized program is established for the student involving one-on-one tutoring and online programs.

Dr. Marilyn Horne

BIO

Dr. Horne is a retired secondary school teacher (25 years) with experience in curriculum wiriting, grant writing and administration, and has served in numerous leadership roles over her puclic school experience. She has a ED. D. from the University of Houston (Texas) in Educational Leadership and a certification in adult education from the State of Arizona. She has served as the program director since 2010.

STATEMENT FROM THE Program Director

"RLCP offers the only year-round adult and family literacy program in Payson. The components include: GED preparation for both English and non-English speakers, English language instruction, computer literacy classes, and a family literacy program (FLP). The FLP serves the children of non-English speaking adults and offers math tutoring in the summer (new in 2014) to any elementary-aged child in Payson. RCLP is a volunteer organization with one part-time paid program director. In 2013 volunteers logged 2,591 hours for a value of $52,027. The number of instructional hours logged was 5,873 for a value of $115,756. ($20.08/hr--IndependentSector.com) Volunteers are needed to work with the children in the Family Literacy Program and to tutor GED math."
