Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Our education department offers year round classes that include daily tours, zoo camps, keeper quest, internships and something for our younger visitors - storytime and crafts. We work with disabled adults to offer a recycling can program and our cell phone donation program helps raise funds for our tigers. We work with rescue groups to offer adoption days and micro-chipping/rabies clinics. We also hold classes that help pet owners provide the best care possible.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our overall objective to to create a sustaining endowment for the support of the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary in the community of Folsom, California. By doing so we enrich and educate the community through our mission and benefit an animal population that might otherwise be destroyed. Giving them a home to live out their lives.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We fund our goals through education programs for schools and the community, fundraising events, donor programs, facility usage and rental fees, and general admissions.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
In addition to the city paid zoo operating staff and a 100+ strong docent organization, the Friends of the Folsom Zoo's volunteer board coordinate the operations of the non-profit arm of the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary focusing exclusively on meeting the growth and animal maintenance needs of the organization.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
More recent accomplishments include:
- Multiple behavioral enrichment projects to enhance the lives of the animals
- a new operations building housing staff onsite and animal support and medical facilities.
- a new feral cat enclosure, removing a public nuisance and working to rehabilitate and re-home
- a new Aviary replacing the original (1970's) enclosure offering dramatically enhanced freedom for our birds of prey.
- currently under construction a large format public barn project to provide working facilities for pasture animals, a public display of regional history, and a community facility for events and fundraising.
