Program 1

The Santa Barbara Historical Museum collects evidence of man's existence in Santa Barbara and conserves artifacts that serve as tools to teach and connect current and future generations to the history of the area and provide prospective for the future. The Historical Museum mounts 3-4 special exhibitions annually along with lectures and special events. The signature exhibition, The Story of Santa Barbara, provides a 450-year overview of Santa Barbara. The Museum conducts elementary school programs specific to grade levels, with third grade focusing on local history, fourth grade on California history, and a fifth grade program focusing on the impact of the westward movement and national history on Santa Barbara. The Museum also offers outreach programs to schools, community service organizations, Elderhostels, and other groups. The Museum is open 6 days a week. On Saturday's the Museum offers special tours of its two historic house museums, the Hon. Charles Fernald Mansion and the Hastings Adobe.
