How does this organization make a difference?

Impact statement

The MSC is successfully working to change the incentives of the global
seafood industry by channeling the interest of consumers and buyers for a
sustainable seafood choice, connecting them with the best actors in the fishing
sector, and by building market pressure, improving the practices of fisheries. As
the world’s leading fishery certification and eco-labeling program the MSC is
now recognized as a vitally important part of the process to reduce the decline
in fish stocks and improve the management of fisheries globally. Research into the environmental
impacts of the MSC program has demonstrated that many fisheries participating
in the MSC program show progressive improvement in environmental performance
throughout the assessment and certification process such as improved stock
status and reduced by-catch as well increases in knowledge and certainty about
ecosystem impacts.

The MSC outreaches to fisheries, industry affiliates, educators, NGOs, environmental affiliates, and those with a stake in the fishing industry to build awareness about the need to manage our oceans for the future and ensure the sustainability of global fish stocks and the health of the marine ecosystems.
