What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Concert Season
Access to and experience of the arts is an important part of building a sense of community and enhancing the vitality and livability of our cities. With over 100 concerts annually, the NJSO greatly enriches the lives of people throughout the state. These performances annually welcome as many as 150,000 diverse residents, young and old, from classical music enthusiasts to devoted connoisseurs to enjoy the power and presence of live classical music. Music Director Xian Zhang continues her acclaimed leadership of the NJSO. The Orchestra presents classical, pops and family programs, as well as outdoor summer concerts and special events. Partnerships with New Jersey arts organizations, universities and civic organizations remain a key element of the Orchestra’s statewide identity.
Education & Community Engagement Programs
The NJSO recognizes that music education is vital in ensuring that New Jersey’s communities continue to be engaged with the musical arts. To this end, the Orchestra hosts six innovative community-based programs designed to promote lifelong learning through the experience of live music. Each of these programs strives to improve the quality of life for young people and their greater communities, while education programs in particular fill the gap of shrinking school music programs by expanding the “pipeline” of young musical talent. The full suite offers hands-on musical instruction, ensemble performance experience and age-appropriate full orchestra concert performances which educate, entertain and enrich the lives of more than 40,000 young people, their families and their educators annually.
