What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Chemical Health
Vinland provides a specialized substance abuse treatment program for adults with cognitive disabilities. We help adult men and women become more aware of their use of alcohol and other drugs. We teach people how those drugs affect the health and healing of their brains, bodies, feelings and relationships.
The program is designed for:
Those who can benefit from a slower-paced, more individually-focused program.
People living with cognitive disabilities such as brain injury, developmential disability, and/or physical disability.
Individuals with co-occuring disorders.
Those who have had difficulty succeeding in traditional chemical dependency treatment programs or those who have relapsed and need a new approach.
Supportive Housing
Independent living for adults with cognitive disabilities in recovery from substance abuse who need minimal amounts of support to remain independent. Vinland manages three homes (called lodges) in the northwestern suburbs of Minneapolis.
Lodge living is ideal for men and women on a fixed income who can benefit from the extended support network offered by the lodges. Residents share in running the household, including chores like purchasing groceries and preparing meals. Residents make their own house rules and manage their own activities and finances.
LivingWorks’ lodges are up-to-date and well-maintained homes in established residential communities. Each lodge is conveniently located near shopping and public transportation. The lodge features shared common areas to ensure a community atmosphere, providing residents with the opportunity to establish friendships and reinforce the network of support that is so important for lodge residents. Lodges are unique among similar supportive housing options because each resident has a private bedroom and bathroom.
On-site staff serve as advisors to the lodge and its members and are always available in emergencies. Because the lodges are designed for people who need minimal amounts of support to remain independent, on-site staff is limited.
