On July 22, 2009, Bob Ottenhoff, GuideStar's president and CEO, and Bradford K. Smith, president of the Foundation Center, jointly addressed one of the most critical issues in the nonprofit sector today: the impact of the economic crisis on nonprofit organizations and on the foundations that support their work. The two leaders discussed how nonprofits were weathering the economic storm, how foundations were responding to support the sector, and the challenges, strategies, and opportunities for both types of organizations going forward. Results of recent surveys conducted by GuideStar and the Foundation Center provided the framework for the 55-minute conversation.

This unprecedented event brought the presidents of these two organizations together for the first time. Katherina Rosqueta, founding executive director of the Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy & Practice, moderated the discussion.
