  1. What is GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go?

GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go allows users who do not subscribe to GuideStar Premium to purchase individual GuideStar Premium reports. Each Pay As You Go purchase provides one GuideStar Premium report for a specific nonprofit. The reports are delivered as PDFs.

  2. How does GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go differ from a GuideStar Premium subscription?

GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go is available to users who do not subscribe to GuideStar Premium and is limited to a single GuideStar Premium report for a specific nonprofit.

A monthly or annual GuideStar Premium subscription provides access to advanced search and data analysis tools as well as all GuideStar Premium data for the duration of the subscription.

  3. What is included in a GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go report?

It depends on how much information we have for the organization covered by the report. Reports for organizations with the greatest depth and breadth of data—those that participate in the GuideStar Exchange and file IRS Form 990—will contain five years of Forms 990, an audited financial statement, a letter of determination, up to five years of annual reports, detailed board of directors information, and employee data. Reports for nonprofits that do not participate in the Exchange or file a 990 may contain only basic information received from the IRS, such as organization name and mailing address.

The best way to determine the data that will be included in a specific organization's report is to use the Pay As You Go report preview functionality (see question 5 for more information).

  4. How do I purchase a GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go report?

There is a purchase link for each organization on the search results page and several purchase links on the organization’s detail pages. In general, the purchase links are adjacent to a bar graph icon.

  5. Can I preview a GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go report before purchasing it?

Yes. You can preview the actual Pay As You Go report for any organization by clicking the Preview Report link associated with that nonprofit on the search results page, or by (a) clicking the "Purchase Report" link in the search results or the organization's report pages (these links are usually adjacent to a bar graph icon), then (b) clicking the Preview Premium Report button displayed in the window that pops up.

The report preview is identical in format to the actual Pay As You Go report and clearly indicates the GuideStar Premium data that will be included in the report.

  6. How do I access my report?

There are three ways to access a report after you complete your purchase: clicking the links on the order confirmation page, within the confirmation e-mail, or in the Premium Transaction Summary section of your My Accounts page or the My Tools tab in the GuideStar Premium reports. Learn more

  7. How do I save my GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go reports?

Your reports will be available for 30 days after purchase; you will need to save them for access after that time. Saving your Pay As You Go reports will also allow you to open them using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which will help ensure that links to all documents will open as expected (see quesiton 11 for information on browser compatibility).

Your reports will be in PDF format, and you will have two ways to save them:

    1. From the "Page" menu in Internet Explorer (or "File" menu within FireFox), click "Save As" (or "Save Page As").
    2. From the Adobe PDF toolbar, click the "Save" icon. This icon is shaped like a floppy disk and is adjacent to the printer icon.

  8. What is the Premium Transaction Summary?

The Premium Transaction Summary is a section within your My Account area where you can access Pay As You Go reports purchased within the last 30 days; your GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go order history; and links to purchase updated reports. (Because data can be updated or added to an organization’s GuideStar Premium report at any time, GuideStar provides this convenient link for you to purchase the updated report from the Premium Transaction Summary.)

The Premium Transaction Summary can be accessed by clicking the My Account link in the row of links at the top of most pages within the GuideStar Web site.

The Premium Transaction Summary can also be accessed by clicking the Premium Transaction Summary link located in the "My Tools" tab, which is visible on every organization detail page.

  9. I had a problem accessing my reports. How do I resolve the issue?

Please call us at 1-866-989-4511, or e-mail us at products@guidestar.org.

  10. Why does the Web site report show more recent financial data than my Pay As You Go Report?

In very rare cases, an organization may opt to self-report certain financial metrics to GuideStar. In these cases, the self-reported data are shown on the financial tab of the organization's report on the GuideStar Web site but not in the Pay As You Go report PDF, as all financial data on the Pay As You Go report are taken from IRS Forms 990.

  11. What browsers are compatible with GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go reports?

PAYG supports the following browsers and PDF viewers:

    • Web Browsers
      Internet Explorer 7 (Windows only)
      Internet Explorer 8 (Windows only)
      FireFox
      Chrome
      Safari (Mac only)
    • PDF Viewers
      Adobe Acrobat Reader
      Preview (Mac only)

Despite being compliant with most Windows- and Mac-based browsers, links to external Web pages and documents within a GuideStar Premium Pay As You Go report will not launch a new browser window (i.e., they will open in the same window in which a user is viewing the Pay As You Go report).

This issue can be remedied by:

    1. Saving your Pay As You Go reports to your computer. In most cases, after a PDF file is saved, it will open by default in the Acrobat Reader utility which, by default, opens links in new browser windows.

If you don't already have the Reader installed, click the link below for the free utility download:

    2. Clicking your browser's "back" button to return to the Pay As You Go report.
