On January 19, 2011, José Fernández, director of the GuideStar Exchange, gave a webinar that introduced participants to the GuideStar Exchange and walked through the mechanics of updating a nonprofit's GuideStar profile. You may find several of the questions posed during the webinar helpful as you update your organization's profile.
How do I claim my profile on the GuideStar Exchange?
Click on the yellow "Update Nonprofit Report" Tab at the top of most pages on our site. If you do not currently have permission to update your organization's nonprofit report, enter the organization's Employer Identification Number (be sure to include the hyphen, i.e., xx-xxxxxxx) and click on the "Request Permission" button. Then complete all of the required fields and click "Send to GuideStar" on the Review Changes tab. Your request will be reviewed within 24 to 48 business hours. One your request has been approved, you will receive notification from GuideStar that you may access your nonprofit's GuideStar Exchange Form to update your organization's profile. Return to the "Update Nonprofit Report" page to make updates.
Where can I find a list of requirements for the GuideStar Exchange Seal?
See the Nonprofit Report Checklist.
Is there a way for more than one person in my organization to have access to our GuideStar Exchange Form? It doesn't let me request access because someone else at our organization already has access.
Yes! Now you can assign additional permissions yourself, without asking GuideStar to do it!
How long after we submit our Form 990 to the IRS can we expect to see it on GuideStar?
Approximately two to six months. In the meantime, you can post your 990 yourself using the "Document Uploads" tab of your GuideStar Exchange Form.
We do not have our 2010 Form 990 or audited report yet. Should I update our info with the 2009 report?
Yes. You can add information from your 2010 return and report when they become available.
My agency does not produce an annual report. Can we still qualify for the GuideStar Exchange seal?
Yes. Upload a brochure, pamphlet, poster, newsletter, press release, or a Word document stating that your organization does not have an annual report.
How long does it take for the updated GuideStar information to show on partner sites, such as Network for Good? I updated over a month ago, and the partner sites still show our old data.
Please forward your organization's Employer Identification Number (EIN) to us at nposervices@guidestar.org, and we will investigate.
