What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Secondary School Scholarships
Providing full scholarships to orphans, HIV affected, and impoverished students to attend boarding schools in Kenya.
Kitchen Project
The current kitchen runs on two charcoal stoves and does not have piped water. The charcoal stoves are not energy efficient. Every month hundreds of dollars are spent on charcoal that could be used to buy more nutritious meals for our students.
The students who live at the school get their breakfast, lunch, and dinner from this kitchen. All the students are fed a morning porridge. Since many children come from nearby slums and impoverished homes, the school makes sure every student is fed early in the day so they can focus on their studies.
At lunch the students eat rice, beans, and a cabbage stew. The students pile on the rice and beans, because for many of them it may be the only meal they receive that day. The pre-school students are fed an afternoon porridge so they don’t go home hungry.
e3Kids is building a new kitchen and dining hall so more meals can be provided. A new kitchen means better fed students who will be able to do even better in school.
Library
Last year, e3 Kids built a library, complete with textbooks and tables for students to study and learn. This year we are raising money for additional books and novels to be integrated into the new library as well as electricity and more tables. This will allow the students further opportunities to learn and enjoy reading. An American librarian is creating curriculum for the library to be successful and will train the teachers at RKS this summer.
Laptops for Learning
The school
does not have any computers available to faculty or students, inhibiting their
opportunities to excel. With twelve computers, wireless internet, and additional electricity we will be able to create a computer facility at the school. We will install Microsoft Office and a typing program
called Jump Start. The computer use
will be twofold. Students at Royal Kids School will use them on a daily basis
for research methods and papers and use the typing program to become more efficient.
Graduates of RKS returning on their high school breaks will use the typing
program to gain and hone typing skills. By having computer and typing literacy,
they will in turn be more employable after high school if they do not go on to
University.
