What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

For any society to progress peace is a must. Humanity has resorted to violence forever and continues to do so to resolve conflict. It is the highest duty of every human being to utilize nonviolent means for conflict resolution. Further, everyone should do their best to spread this message to others, especially, to the next generation, citizens of tomorrow. It is our humble effort to help achieve this objective through construction of Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum.

Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum

Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston is in the process of building this museum. The exhibits at the museum is a gift to MGL from Birla family of India. Houston would be the first and only city in the United States to host it as a permanent exhibit.

The Houston Museum would be a phenomenal educational resource and civic asset for the community, especially for children, and will present Gandhian values in a fun and game-centric manner. The museum will present the historical events of Gandhi’s life as well as spectrum of information technology, inspired by Gandhian thought. To take a virtual tour of what the museum would look like please visit https://youtu.be/iPgucmGS16U.

Besides Houston, Delhi, India and Birmingham, Scotland, UK will have these exhibits.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our mission is to introduce universal values of Truth, Nonviolence, Love and Service to everyone, especially to the next generation, in and around Houston Metropolitan area through study of leaders of peace such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others

We will be offering filed trips to "Eternal Gandhi Museum" to children. The museum will be one of its kind in all of Americas.

The Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum opened in New Delhi in 2005, and is one of the world's first digital multimedia museums. Houston would be the first and only city in the United States to host it as a permanent exhibit. The Houston Museum would be a phenomenal educational resource for the community, especially for children, and will present Gandhian values in a fun and game-centric manner. The museum will present the historical events of Gandhi's life as well as spectrum of information technology, inspired by Gandhian thought. To take a virtual tour to see what the museum may look like, please go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPgucmGS16U

We have the required personnel and wherewithal to execute and operate this project.

The organization has Board of Trustees backed up by executive committees and volunteers. Everyday more and more people are coming on board with their capabilities , skills, time and other resources to execute and operate this project.

In addition, we have on board renowned museum consultant, architect, education consultant, fund raiser and last but not the least a turnkey build and design for museum exhibits.

To date we have not even scratched the surface of social media, traditional awareness program, advertising , marketing etc and yet it has been blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi unveiled the plaque of the ground breaking on September 22, 2019.

The project is also being promoted by the Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner.

We have been organizing Mahatma Gandhi Week consisting of Speech, creative writing, poster and multimedia contests for school going children since 2004. The participation in these contests has increased several fold since 2004 when only 40 children participated in all the contests.

In 2006 it became a city wide celebration titled "1000 Lights For Peace". It was celebrated on the steps of the City Hall with Mayor Bill White as the Chief Guest and Rev Bill Lawson as the keynote speaker. A 5K "Walk For Peace" was also started that year. 1000 Lights For Peace is an international and multicultural dance and music show dedicated to peace. The winners of various contests of annual Mahatma Gandhi Week are awarded the chief guests such as Mayors, Consul Generals of India-Houston Office, other prominent elected officials and leading Houstonians.

Since then these celebrations have been taking place each year at the Miller Outdoor Theatre and keep growing. Other organizations such as Unity of Houston, Vegan Society for PEACE of Huston and others have joined the 1000 Lights For Peace celebrations

From September 30, 2018 to October 6, 2019 we had yearlong citywide celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Sesquicentennial.

We have not been able to reach all the diverse communities of Houston as we would like to. We would like even more children benefit from field trips to the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston, EGMH, once it is built. EGMH will also offer facilities for community dialogue, workshops, seminars.
