Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Our programs include:

a. HIV/AIDS, STD, TB, and Malaria Education/Prevention, Counseling & Referral

Through peer educators, individual or small group-level interventions, ASG educates those with, affected or at risk for HIV/STD/TB infection about the infection, its modes of transmission, its symptoms, its prevention and current available treatment, the breakthroughs in research and pharmaceutical relief, and links its clients to services for impact mitigation. Through this direct informational campaign, ASG helps the general public to better understand the diseases and the needs of the infected, the objective being to make the world more welcoming and accepting to infected people---elimination of stigma and discrimination.

b. Maternal and Infant Health Education/Prevention & Referral

Through peer educators, individuals or small group-level interventions, ASG educates girls, women and children caregivers about women health issues and common children health illnesses. The objective is to promote and enhance health care seeking behaviors in terms to prevent avoidable health problems and diseases.

c. Special Projects:
-Capacity Building & Education/Information Services

Our approaches include:

> Partnering with communities to build schools
> Establishing libraries and filling them with books and computers
> Providing long-term scholarships primarily to girls, and then to boys, especially AIDS orphans
> Provide access to and support vocational education

-Nutrition and Food Security

Through provision of emergency food, ASG aims to create hunger-free environment where children and needy families receive food assistance while our interventions strengthen their capacity in terms to improve their lives.

-Patient Services: services include client centered educational, social and support activities; assistance for the uninsured and under-insured; distribution of wheelchairs and daily living aids.

Target Population:

In Africa, ASG clients include orphan children left to fend for themselves by deceased AIDS-stricken parents, uneducated young mothers who have become mothers by unplanned pregnancies and who lack education and economic opportunities, street children, young people aged 14 to 24, sex workers and their patrons, and to a certain extent the general population.

In New York City, ASG clients are immigrant youth and unemployed or low-income African immigrants whose language barrier and immigration illegal status prevent access to information and services.
