What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Young Women of Promise mentoring

The mentoring program of Young Women of Promise, Inc. is based on the belief that the future of our adolescent African-American female is promising.

Program participants are provided exposure to successful African-American women who share their personal experiences and offer inspiration to our future leaders. They are provided encouragement and assistance to pursue academic success.

Learning Through Service
Research has shown that volunteering helps youth develop leadership skills. Benefits to volunteering include: learning to respect others; learning to be helpful and kind; learning to understand people who are different from them; becoming more patient, and better understanding of good citizenship.

Current program participants range in age from 7 - 18.

Population(s) Served

Kinston YEP provides a variety of supportive services to youth in grades K-12. These programs include mentoring; literacy; Camp Promise, Teens and Kids Who Care and more.

Population(s) Served

Teens and Kids Who Care is our service-learning initiative. We believe that the strength of a community lies within its youth. We allow our youth to help identify the problems within our community. We support them as they work on solutions that can help some of our most challenging problems.

Population(s) Served

A Promise to Read is our youth literacy initiative. We place emphasis on literacy in all of our program areas. We provide free book distributions so that our youth can start building their home reading collections. We believe that representation matters and we aim to provide our youth with books and materials in which they can see themselves in.
