What we aim to solve
The YMCA of Greenwich is working to become a center for community wellness. We feel there is a need for people suffering from chronic diseases to have programs available to support them in their recovery. Offering programs and services for our constituents which will complement their medical care will fill a void. Community health takes on new meaning in today's world and the YMCA of Greenwich striving to have the community view our programs as a wellness solution.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Youth Sports
Youth Sports offer children ages 6 months to 11 years an opportunity to learn the sports fundamentals in a safe, non-competitive environment. While playing basketball, indoor soccer, gymnastics, flag football, floor hockey and more; children develop good sportsmanship, motor skills, and independance. Greenwich Family Y Youth Sports programs allow children to develop confidence because they operate on the "everybody plays, everybody wins" philosophy. Challenger programs support and encourage children with special needs to take part in leisure and recreational activities. Each program is designed to nurture children with activities adapted for them. Guidance is available for graduation into our conventional youth programs.
Aquatics
The YMCA of Greenwich offers aquatics programs at all levels, from parent child and swim school to highly competitive swim, dive and water polo teams. We also offer Swim Strong for special needs children and adult learn to swim. Private and semi-private swim lessons with experienced instructors are also available by appointment.
Adult and Senior Fitness
Adult and senior fitness are also a major part of the Greenwich Family YMCA. We offer a variety of aerobic, yoga and Spinning classes including Physio Ball, Sunrise Vinyasa Yoga, Pilates, Classic Step and more. Stay Fit is a popular aerobics class especially for senior citizens. This class moves participants through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strenth, range of movement and skills required during activities for daily living. Aquasize, a water aerobics class, uses water resistance to tone, trim and strengthen the body. This supportive class is popular with seniors and adults alike. Many of our members enjoy exercising in our state-of-the-art fitness center which features LifeFitness Signature Series strength training equipment as well as a full complement of treadmills, elliptical cross trainers and stationery bicycles, many with integrated televisions. The Greenwich Family Y also offers a full weight room with universal weights.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The YMCA of Greenwich will be rolling out new community health programming to serve cancer survivors, arthritis sufferers, and people with hypertension and diabetes to augment our existing community wellness programming.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are expanding our existing Parkinson's Body and Mind Program and our Safe & Strong Special Needs Swim Program. We will use the experience and lessons learned in developing these programs to add additional community wellness programming.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a Director of Programs and Wellness who overseas all community wellness programming. There is or will be a program coordinator for each program who will work with program participants and instructors to keep the programs efficient and make sure all of the participant's needs are being addressed.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have grown our Parkinson's Program and added classes and support groups to meet the needs of this special community. This program now has boxing, yoga and dance classes.
Our special needs swim program has expanded to three levels and a pre-team as well as vacation camps.
We plan to launch a program for cancer survivors in early 2021 as well a a program for veterans.
