Trout Unlimited

aka Candlewood Valley Trout Unlimited #309   |   Danbury, CT   |  cvtu.org

Mission

Founded in 1959, TU is the leading conservation organization dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring, North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. Our 100,000 members are organized into 450 local chapters nationwide. These volunteer chapters are the "watchdogs" of their local rivers and streams. They conduct stream restoration projects, monitor legislation, and fight for "fish friendly" policies with state and local officials. Through its Washington DC-based national headquarters, TU conducts valuable scientific and economic research to foster more enlightened trout and salmon management practices, lobbies to strengthen environmental legislation like the Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act, and provides a voice for its 100,000 members.

Notes from the nonprofit

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goals involve establishing and managing education and environmental programs - Trout in the Classroom, Youth Education Day and river restoration. We collaborate with other organizations to leverage our effectiveness. We use monthly meetings, email blasts, a newsletter, and many Chapter outings to communicate and build membership bonds.
We also bring expert speakers on the environment, education and fishing to our monthly meetings and to some specialized outings. We participate in the broader mission of Trout Unlimited by participating in the Connecticut State Council and by attending the Trout Unlimited national meetings.

We focus on a limited number of education and environmental programs - Trout in the Classroom, Youth Education Day and river restoration. We have more than 200 members and are part of a State and National organization well equipped to carry out our mission.

We have taken the Trout in the Classroom program from 1 classroom to 31. We have rehabilitated/restored three local streams.
