Operation Home Base is a drop-in and clinical case-management program for runaways and homeless youth in the Bronx that provides immediate safe haven for young people in need of shelter, and ongoing counseling and case management to deal with both psycho-social and academic/educational issues. Operation Home Base also offers follow-up support and mediations services to assist in a family reunification.
Launched in 2004, The Spot Next Door, is the only LGBTQ youth (ages 23 and younger) program in the Bronx. The mission is to improve the lives of LGBTQ youth through educational enrichment programs, positive social activities, counseling, case management, medical referrals, arts programming, and community building projects. This program also offers tutoring, college counseling, cultural activities, performing arts workshops, job readiness training, financial responsibility courses, and a Youth Leadership program.
Counseling and Case Management offers both individual and group counseling to members for the LGBT community as well as professional case management and referral services to those needing emergency assistance.
Sexuality Matters is a 90-minute workshop presented to physicians, social workers, and other health care providers to help them increase their competence and cultural sensitivity while treating their LGBT patients and clients.
HIV Prevention and Services include pioneering programs SPOT (Safe Partying Outreach Team) and Street Smart Plus a program that reduces risk of HIV infection through positive self image programs, optimistic educational outreach, positive peer leaders, and ongoing HIV screening.
BCPC offers confidential HIV testing, counseling, and referrals to LGBT-friendly doctors.
The Safe Spot program is a partnership with more that 50 local businesses who have committed to provide safe haven for any LGBT individual in distress, especially youth, assisting them in connecting with BCPC services, and allowing BCPC to distribute HIV prevention materials through their business venue. BCPC works in close partnership with the Adolescent AIDS Program and the South Bronx Health Center for Children and Families to link all HIV positive adolescents into quality medical care.
Health Link Line 888-4GAY-CARE is a free and confidential crisis and referral hot-line providing referrals to doctors who have successfully completed the Sexuality Matters training and other knowledgeable, sensitive, LGBT-friendly medical, legal and social services.
