What we aim to solve
LIU’s goals are to solidify its reputation as a competitive, nationally recognized, globally engaged teaching and research institution while simultaneously maintaining college affordability to attract highly qualified academic students. Since 2014, the institution has maintained a cap of 2% on tuition rate increases to maintain the affordability of a private LIU education.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
College of Veterinary Medicine
At LIU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, one of only four such schools in the Northeast, students gain hands-on experience with small and large animals as early as their first semester. They actively participate in dozens of research initiatives, ranging from cell engineering and neuroscience to stem cell use in regenerative medicine and gene therapy. The College of Veterinary Medicine maintains strong partnerships with prominent hospitals in the Greater New York area and across the country, creating extensive experiential learning and networking opportunities for LIU’s veterinarians-in-training, which allow for collaborative efforts in both research and medical practice.
School of Pharmacy
Since 1929, LIU Pharmacy has been preparing future pharmacists with the education necessary to succeed in this challenging and changing field. Students are exposed to advances in areas like chronic disease pharmacotherapy and pharmacy automation; provided opportunities to utilize data analytics and artificial/augmented intelligence; and encouraged to further advance the clinical progress achieved in delivering patient care.
In support of LIU’s commitment, the university has made investments in state-of-the-art technology to enhance the pharmacy curriculum. One example is LIU’s collaboration with Dassault Systèmes, a world leader in AI technologies. This partnership promises developments in research and education by enhancing LIU's offerings in digital health, personalized medicine, and drug discovery through an advanced learning lab.
With LIU Pharmacy’s strong history and firm grasp on the future, graduates are prepared and ready for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
School of Business
Experiential learning opportunities are integral to the student experience in LIU's School of Business. Options include:
LIU:IQ CONSULTING: In this client-paid, student-run consulting program, student consultants execute semester-long business cases for domestic and international companies. Recognized as one of LIU’s most rigorous and prestigious programs, students gain integral managerial, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
STUDENT-RUN BUSINESSES: Four campus micro-stores provide real-world experience in owning/running a business as students independently manage, market, operate, and staff these ventures.
LIU INCUBATOR SPACE: Office space, mentors and resources for student entrepreneurs to take their ideas to the next level.
FINANCIAL MARKETS LAB: Fully equipped lab with Bloomberg Terminals and access to the full range of exclusive Bloomberg Professional services.
The Roosevelt School
The Roosevelt School, inspired by the legacies of the Roosevelt family, is a preeminent institution for education, scholarship and practice in global relations, diplomacy, leadership and service. It includes:
STEVEN S. HORNSTEIN CENTER FOR POLICY, POLLING AND ANALYSIS: independent polling, empirical research, and analysis on public issues
WHITE HOUSE EXPERIENCE & MUSEUM OF DEMOCRACY: an immersive experience to expand the study of presidential leadership and civic education.
THEODORE ROOSEVELT INSTITUTE: a nexus for public seminars, research and educational programs to develop leaders and advance policy while promoting the legacy of President Roosevelt
GLOBAL SERVICES INSTITUTE: aims to inspire community service around the world and connect volunteers to organizations in need through a mobile app
SOCIETY OF PRESIDENTIAL DESCENDANTS: direct descendants of US presidents who are committed to improving civics education and teaching leadership skills through their ancestors' legacies
College of Health Professions
Health sector employment is projected to grow by about 18% in the US between 2016 and 2026, accounting for nearly one-third of all new jobs (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Long Island University is meeting this growing need with degrees in the health professions that prepare graduates for the future of health care. On both campuses, dynamic interdisciplinary curriculums focus on technological integration, collaboration with other health care professionals, and patient-centered care.
The Interprofessional Learning Institute Simulation Laboratory provides future health professionals with important hands-on learning experiences. Both campuses are in close proximity to New York City and the growing Long Island STEM corridor, offering a wide range of prestigious clinical practice experiences. With state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated faculty, Long Island University’s health professionals enter the workforce with the confidence and experience to address the needs of their community.
