What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The Jewish people today, whether in Israel or abroad are lacking Jewish education that is relevant, authentic and fulfilling. Assimilation around the globe is rampant makng Jews disappear and sadly, it is increasing from year to year, Israelis are moving out of Israel because they do not value being Jewish or see the importance of our homeland, IDF soldiers are unmotivated and unsure for what they are fighting for which leads to problem of discipline and moral on the base and in the battlefield. And once their service is finished they find the first opportunity to run to the far east or the southern hemisphere.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Individuals

Individuals join Ascent for educational and experiential programs lasting anywhere from 1 day to a week, over a weekend or during the week. All programs are co-ed and associated with either a topic or a calendar event - Judaism and Meditation, Judaism and Music, Judaism and the Land, Purim Unmasked, Discover Yom Kippur, etc. Activities include inspiring classes, hands on workshops, tours, hikes and music events. Workshops include challah baking, candle making, tree of life shtender, meditation and Jewish Yoga, etc. We supply most meals and lodging. Languages are English, Hebrew, French, Spanish and Russian. We advertise through social networks, sms, posters and word of mouth. Evaluations and feedback forms are part of every program. The goal of each program is to share new ideas with our participants and to guide them toward a greater personal involvement in Judaism.

We also welcome individuals every day in our Jewish youth hostel. We have 4 classes in English and 2 in Hebrew daily, an open stacks library, daily tours and other activities.

All programs focus on some aspect of Jewish identity to help strengthen their commitment to Israel. The goal of the program is to help the soldiers understand more about themselves as Jews, that G-d cares about them, that the land is holy and what they are fighting for, which improves morale and thus the security of Israel.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Ascent's goal is to educate a whole generation of Jews to give them knowledge and strengthen their Jewish identity via our programs on our Safed campus, programs taught around the world by our staff and through our websites to create a new generation of inspired leaders who will then return to homes, schools, campus and share their inspiration with their peers. We have proven that traditional Jewish teachings, particularly those connected with Kabbala and Chassidut speak to the soul of the person in the most powerful way. Over 60,000 already participate in our programs annually and another million through our website, but much more must be done to guarantee that the Jewish people fulfill their mission as lamplighters for the world.

Over the last 35 years Ascent has developed educational techniques for short, high impact, high quality adult level, single day and overnight programs. We serve the entire spectrum of the Jewish community and accept interested non-Jewish groups as well. Based in a 240 bed facility, we particularly chose Safed the city of Kabbala, one of Israel's 4 holy cities as the location of our center because we feel that Jewish tradition, particularly Jewish mystical tradition has many of the answers that this generation is searching for. And the backdrop of the Galilee also works to bring a person closer to his people and our traditions. Furthermore, we strive to make each participant feel he or she is important

35 years of experience, partnering with other top education organizations, a top professional staff, a fantastic location are a few of our assets. Almost all of our staff are Jews from secular backgrounds who have become observant and see themselves as powerful bridges between Jewish tradition and secular society,
