Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Dream Pond Animal Sanctuary and Reserve
Our former location, the Queens Community Animal Shelter, was a member of the Mayor's Alliance for New York City Animals. It rescued and treated companion animals, both medically and behaviorally, and re-homed hundreds of cats and dogs each year after being spayed or neutered. Our Animal Behavior Center of New York served as a low cost community animal behavior center and treatment clinic and a teaching facility for professional animal behavior specialists.
In 2004, we purchased 15 acres in a rural area outside of Crescent City Florida and opened the Dream Pond Animal Sanctuary and Reserve. We moved over 50 cats and dogs to this wonderful facility. Today, we provide a home for cats and dogs as well as horses, donkeys, goats, fowl and llamas. Our CEO serves on the Putnam County Animal Services Advisory Committee and we provide a rescue location when the local shelter is at capacity. We also rehome animals that are well and care for those that are ill or those that have disabilities. We also serve as a visitation place for children and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including persons on the Autism spectrum, and those in addiction recovery programs, with our CEO being a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. We have current partnerships with the non-profit Florida Center for Behavior Analysis and the American College of Applied Science that offers graduate, undergraduate and professional development programs in animal science, animal welfare and animal behavior.
