Mission

Whereas, we agree with the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights that recognition of the inherent dignity
and of the equal rights of all members of the human family is the
foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world; and everyone is
entitled to realization, through national effort and international
co-operation and in accordance with the organization and resources of
each State, of the economic, social, cultural and security rights
indispensable for human dignity and the free development of
personality; and

Whereas,
war and violent conflict disrupt the social and economic fabric of

Whereas, economic policies and institutions can either prevent or mitigate violence or can contribute to it; and

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

EPS has affiliates in 17 countries who work together and within their regions to host conferences, participate in research projects, make policy recommendations, publish newsletters, and disseminate results and teaching materials. Key research areas include conflict in the context of economic globalization, worldwide military expenditure, and the political economy of strategic weapons.

Population(s) Served

EPS is convening 4 working groups to address the Banking and Finance; Climate Change and Infrastructure; Security; and Budgeting and Macroeconomic Policy aspects of the 2008-09 economic crisis.  Each group will meet in small sessions, leading to white papers and symposia during 2009 and 2010.

Population(s) Served

EPS has been commissioned to measure the effects of large-scale violent conflict, wars or terrorism on the airline, airport and tourism industries.  The end result will be a model for analyzing the costs of conflict that could be used to predict the consequences on the airline/airport industry of war or terrorism.  There is industry interest in understanding precisely how violent events affect them.
