What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Productions - Abingdon mounts between four and six full productions each year.
Play Development - Abingdon receives, reads and evaluates over 500 scripts a year. We host over 50 First Readings, 10 Staged Readings, and several Workouts each season. Each reading is followed by an audience feedback session, allowing out patrons to engage with the development of the work and providing invaluable feedback to our artists. Workouts give artists the chance to dissect the text in a safe, creative space. All readings are free and open to the public.
Intern Program - Twelve interns per year receive a stipend to train in literary, managerial, technical and artistic areas.
Subscription Program - Abingdon's subscriber base has flourished since its inception in 1998.
The Christopher Brian Wolk Award - awards a $1,000 prize and a Staged Reading for the best new play submitting during Abingdon's fiscal year.
Young Associates - Includes young people in theater and offers very reasonable ticket prices. Encourages young people to see theater and talk about it, thereby perpetuating a generation of life-long theatre patrons.
