Mission

We are reaching a tipping point in terms of environmental awareness. Not only did the beginning of 2007 see the unveiling of the report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change but 2006 was the year of The Omnivore's Dilemma and Fast Food Nation the movie. This conversation has only begun moving into the Jewish community and the bulk of Hazon's work centers around the intersection of these issues as they intersect a traditional set of Jewish concerns around the health and sustainability of the Jewish community. On one hand, Hazon builds community, develops leadership and builds innovative partnerships around contemporary issues which affect the world as a whole, and on the other hand engages people within a pluralistic but distinctly Jewish context involving prayer, text, tzedakah and practice. Between these two tensions, Hazon ultimately reframes what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century.

Hazon creates healthy and sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond.
We accomplish this in three ways:

Outdoor Activities

Hazon means vision. We create healthy and sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond.

We do this in three primary ways:

Transformative experiences(http://www.hazon.org/go.php?q=/about/visionAndMission.html#1) for individuals and communities.
Thought leadership(http://www.hazon.org/go.php?q=/about/visionAndMission.html#2) in the fields of Jewish and environmental knowledge.
Support(http://www.hazon.org/go.php?q=/about/visionAndMission.html#3) of the Jewish environmental movement in North America and Israel.

Our programs are multi-generational and give entree points for Jews of all backgrounds who are concerned about the environment and the world. Hazon serves a national and international population; members of every denomination and those who are unaffiliated; intergenerational from children to seniors – including families and singles, with a particular focus on young adults interested in developing the skills to take on leadership roles in their communities and make a difference in the world (whether by fundraising for a Hazon Bike Ride with the proceeds going to support innovative environmental projects, through engaging locally or nationally in our sustainable food work, or running a Tu b’Shvat seder in a local community).

Population(s) Served

Hazon is at the forefront of an emerging national movement at the intersection of food and Jewish life. Hazon's food programs include: Hazon CSA, our Jewish Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program; the Jewish Food Education Network, a day school food curriculum and an adult curriculum (Food for Thought); JCarrot.org, an award winning blog on Jews, food and contemporary food issues with 500 unique users a month, and the Food Conference including chefs, farmers, educators, foodies, and food enthusiasts.
