Bridge Building

Bridging the Gap Africa utilizes the I.P.O approach to bridge construction. The community (I) initiates the request for a bridge and works with neighboring communites to (P) participate in the fun ding and provide the labor to complete construction before (O) ownership is transferred to the community at the conclusion of the project. The community elects a group of volunteers that will care for the bridge and tend to basic repairs during the lifetime of the bridge.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The goals for Bridging the Gap Africa are to:
Develop a complete set of peer evaluated design plans with international acceptance of design.
Hire a full -time project engineer within the project country to provide oversite and construction management.
Provide the funding necessary to fulfill the number of bridge requests that are received.

The Board of Directors has engaged in a full strategic planning process to address the needs of the organization. The founder has been invited to the Annenberg Foundation's leadership conference to devlope the skills necessary to effectively lead the organization. BtGA has secured a certified engineer to lead programming in Kenya through the Peace Corps Response Volunteer program to provide cost effective oversight of projects.

The organization has been developing infrastructure to support growth in both programming and also better administration. This has been through the implementation of donor sotware and the formation of a technical advisory committee to oversee the design, survey, and construction of our bridges.

The organization is in the beginning steps of implementing the strategic plan and not enough time has elapsed to begin official evaluation. The Boarn continues to monitor the progress and will formally evalute the progress at the end of 1 calendar year.
