What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
200 to 300 students a year are interviewed by volunteer alumni for Yale Admissions. 100 alumni stand ready for these assignments.
Yale manages an endowment created originally by YWAA for undergraduate financial aid that now totals over $300,000. In addition, YWAA has raised and manages a new endowment addition of more than $100,000 and the Yale Westchester Centennial Fund that has added approximately $250,000. Income (5%) from these combined funds are paid out each year to provide a fraction of Yale's commitment to financial aid for Westchester students. Beneficiaries number between 20 and 30 each year.
Yale Book Awards are given to juniors at May-June Awards Assemblies, usually with parents, teachers and outstanding students in attendance. Sometimes Yale alumni make the presentation.
A major Yale Musicale occurs annually, engaging professional musicians from Yale School of Music, Yale faculty and undergraduate a cappella singing groups. It raises funds for financial aid for the Yale School of Music or other performing or visual arts students.
Annual alumni gatherings at the Boscobel Restoration, for performances by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival players, are enriched by a preview Yale lecture and by the presence of high school student winners of Yale Westchester Shakespeare prizes.
Annual gatherings at Caramoor occur at the Summer Festival opening and finale, including a picnic, afterglow lecture by the Artistic Director of Caramoor or Yale graduate students, and performances.
The annual Yale All Westchester Scholarship Banquet in October is the big event of the year, engaging nationally known speakers, professional performers and the Yale Whiffenpoofs. The purpose is to raise funds for undergraduate financial aid.
An annual high school debate program engages competitive collegiate debaters (e.g. Yale vs. Harvard vs. Princeton), followed by audience competition that links a high school debater and a college debater. The program is moderated by college deans.
