What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

On a regular basis, animals and wildlife are destroyed by humans for industry, farming, or urban sprawl. The aim of the Utica Zoo is to educate the public about the importance of wildlife and conservation, help develop an appreciation of wildlife for future generations, and support field conservation work happening in the wild to help save animals from extinction. By educating the public, the Utica Zoo helps people understand the benefits and need to save animals and learn to love animals of all kinds.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Grow our animal collection to have a more diverse collection, continuously develop our education programs to reach more people and future generations, and become a premier tourism destination while excelling in animal care.

The Utica Zoo regularly fundraises to develop our physical zoo area to provide more modern and natural exhibits for our animals, to develop and add new exhibit spaces, and bring new animals and species to the zoo. Our fundraising strategies continue throughout the year with several targeted campaigns aimed at funding and supporting a wide variety of projects.

Our fundraising team of 4 used numerous tools and methods to help raise funds. Our most used tool is DonorPerfect to help us manage our relationships with potential and past donors and help them find projects that meet their interests that coincide with our fundraising needs.

We have grown our budgets over the last several years and have added several new exhibits, brought in new animals and species, expanded our education program, and established a point of rapport with several local organizations as partners. We are continuing our upward momentum and continuing to fund ongoing projects as part of Master Plan to expand and grow our Zoo.
