Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Vibhuti Saivaite Immersion
Every summer, SVTS conducts an overnight youth program on the Temple premises for kids aged 10 to 18. The program is known as “Vibhuti Saivaite Immersion,” or “VSI,” because we strive to immerse the kids in the rich traditions of Saiva culture. As our Temple is a “Learning Temple,” it’s an ideal place for kids to get involved and truly experience the wealth of Saiva philosophy and worship.
Activities involve learning devotional chants like Siva Puranam and Sri Suktam, learning rangoli and other traditional temple arts, singing bhajans with Aiya, learning about great saints, and much more. Of course, there are also games and fun activities like sports, a nature outing, and an all-vegetarian barbecue picnic.
Through inspirational talks from guest speakers and informal conversations with counselors, each child is encouraged to find his or her own personal connection with Saiva culture and devotion in a fun-filled and pristine natural setting.
Puja, Homa and Religious Services
At Sri Vidya Temple, Parashakti - the dynamic aspect of universal consciousness - is worshipped in the form of Mother Rajarajeswari Devi, along with her retinue of deities and their various forms. These include Siva, Ganapathi, Subrahmanya, Nataraja, Ardhanareeshwara, Bhairava, Maha Pratyangira, Saraswati, Bala Tripurasundari, Kamakshi, Dattatreya, Durga, Nityakala Devis and others. She is also worshipped in the form of Her mandala or yantra - a three dimensional Sri Yantra Maha Meru. All of these deities receive puja thrice daily.
Annadanam (food) is served to all visitors free of cost twice daily 365 days a year, and forms an important aspect of worshipping the divine in every individual.
Our main abhishekam program is held every Saturday. The program starts at 9:30 AM with Kamadhenu Puja and ends with lunch, which is usually between 2 and 3 PM. Everyone who comes will have the opportunity to offer milk to Ganapati, Devi and Siva with their own hands. Whenever possible, newcomers will also have the chance to perform abhishekam to Devi with the energized sanka tirtham from the Kalasa Puja.
Special pujas are performed on special days according to the lunar calendar. Every Purnima, or Full Moon, a special Navavarana Puja or Homam is performed in the Temple. Everyone who attends is offered the sacred “visesharghyam,” a mix of auspicious items that is charged and energized with the divine energy of Sri Lalitambika Devi.
Every Pradosham, a special Pradosha Puja is performed in the Temple. Everyone who attends is invited to perform milk Lingabhishekam with their own hands, and also to join in the chanting if familiar with the mantras.
The great sages of our Sanatana Dharma were well aware of human needs and understood how to invoke divine energies for happiness, peace, health and true prosperity. They have gifted us with many powerful ceremonies designed to purify our energy, create an aura of positivity around us, and lighten our load of karma, so that we are able to overcome obstacles more easily with the grace of God. The volunteers of the Sri Rajarajeswari Peetam provide a number of puja and homam services for special occasions on request.
The temple also celebrates a number of Hindu festivals throughout the year on a very grand scale, with Maha sivaratri, Sharad Navaratri being the main ones. Each festival is typically dedicated to a specific deity (for example, Ganesh Chaturti is dedicated to Ganapati) and during the course of the festival, the deity receives elaborate puja, homa and abhisheka. These are also offerings of devotional music and dance. The deity is taken around the temple by devotees in a grand procession, sometimes carried in a palanquin, at other times, in a chariot that is pulled by devotees to the accompaniment of traditional nadaswaram music.
