Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Esperanza en Accion works with 30 groups of artisans with a total of approximately 1000 beneficiaries. The majority live in rural areas and 80% are women. The artisans make beautifully handcrafted pottery and dishes, pine needle baskets, stone carvings, weavings, jewelry, paintings, cards, embroidery, animal whistles and more.

Working directly with the artisans, we connect them with fair markets both in Nicaragua and the U.S., providing technical assistance in how to calculate a fair wage, develop small business practices, improve quality, and facilitate educational exchanges between artisan groups.

Esperanza en Accion is an interactive partnership between Nicaragua and the U.S.; only by working together is this mission possible.

In the capital of Managua, Esperanza en Accion has the only fair trade artesanias (art & crafts) shop in Nicaragua. The shop doubles as our Economic Justice Education Center, where our talented staff provide education to approximately 1000 visitors per year. We also provide social and economic justice education via speaking tours throughout the U.S.

In addition, we have three primary sales regions in the U.S. in Michigan, Kentucky and Oklahoma. A volunteer-driven organization, our stateside sales are staffed entirely by our highly dedicated volunteers.

100% of proceeds from sales are reinvested into the mission.
