Mission

The Ghana Educational Collaborative provides support to exceptional students with significant financial need. We provide academic scholarships, mentorship opportunities and access to a strong peer community, in order for students to achieve their highest aspirations. Our goal is to support students who demonstrate exceptional educational promise by offering them opportunities in education that they would otherwise not have due to finances and circumstances. GEC’s goal is to fundraise for, and provide leadership opportunities, in order to alter the trajectory of enrolled students to positively impact their education and their future.

Supporting and Mentoring

An important aspect of our program is the family-centered environment that we create in GEC. We embrace the saying that it takes a village to raise a child. For many of our students, they are and will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. As a part of their “village,” we hope to play a part by supporting and mentoring them through their educational journey. Our students are mentored by board members both in Ghana and in the US. Once we know the type of career students hope to pursue, we also match them with a community mentor who has that career background. Our older students & alumni in turn also serve as mentors for young students in the program, and to other people in the community.

  • What significant change resulted from feedback?

    Our COVID-19 relief project was in response to feedback from the people we serve. It was an emergency response program that provided crisis management support to our families by ensuring that basic necessities such as food and water are provided. Although GEC typically works to provide school tuition support and mentoring to students and families in Ghana, we have had to shift our priorities to help students and parents make it through the pandemic safely until schools reopen.
