AGAPE AIDS ORPHAN CARE
AIDS orphan care from cradle to college
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Children orphaned by AIDS have no support from families due to stigma and no support from the government due to the higher costs of caring for orphans that are HIV+. Agape fills that gap by providing shelter, food, clothing and medical treatment in our own homes and an education in our own school.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Agape Children's Homes
Orphanages to care for children orphaned as a result of AIDS are a central focus of Agape's efforts. While our hope is that many AIDS orphans will be able to receive care within their extended family and community, experience would suggest this is often not the case.
Agape has gained the respect of local government agencies, hospitals and NGOs who refer children to Agape knowing they will not only have housing, but nutritious food, medical attention, loving care and family that every child deserves.
Agape School
Agape operates its own school to ensure even the HIV positive children receive an education to help build a secure future. Classes taught in English start with pre-kindergarten and go through high school (10th Class). Special "bridge" classes help students advance from their native Telugu into English medium classes. The school has a computer lab, a science lab and a library. After graduation, qualified students are sponsored through college to continue their education.
College Program
Agape's commitment goes beyond high school. Our goal is to help students build sustainable, rewarding futures, and "give back" to their communities.
We support approximately 30 qualified students through their college years, including several students that have nearly completed advanced engineering and business degrees.
Agape Medical Care
Provide medical attention and anti retroviral drugs to our HIV+ children and ensure adequate nutrition for HIV+ children

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Agape's objective is to equip the orphans living with/impacted by HIV/AIDS in Hyderabad India for a lifetime of independent living, where they can give back to their community. Our primary goals to accomplish this objective are:
EDUCATION FOR ADVANCEMENT - Education is the key that will unlock doors of opportunity for the children to break free from the cycle of poverty into which many of them were born. We seek to provide equal opportunities without discrimination for children living with HIV.
HEALTHY LIVING - Agape's goal is for each orphan to receive the nutritious food and medical care every child deserves.
CREATING FAMILY - Our goal is to create "family" ties that will last a life time for orphans who have been rejected by or have no family to care for them.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In order to equip orphans living with/impacted by HIV/AIDS in Hyderabad India for a lifetime of independent living, Agape has implemented the following strategies.
EDUCATION FOR ADVANCEMENT - Agape built a school where all of our children, even those living with HIV, could be educated without discrimination. We transitioned to English medium in 2014 to improve reading, writing and speaking skills in English.
The Agape school provides an education from lower kindergarten through 10th class. The school is equipped with classrooms for all grades as well as a computer lab, science lab, library, audio-visual room and a nursery for the babies and toddlers.
Agape's commitment goes beyond high school for many students who wish to continue their education. While many graduates return to their villages with a high school degree and lasting connection to their Agape family, many others are supported through college and are pursuing degrees in Engineering, Business, Science or Dentistry.
HEALTHY LIVING - Nutritious food, annual dental care, CD4 monitoring and ART treatments for HIV positive orphans as well as routine medical attention are all routine at Agape. Many of our orphans receive better care than the relatives who could not or would not care for them.
CREATING FAMILY - Agape operates seven children's homes, each for specific gender, age group and HIV status. Under the direction of house parents, each child is provided a safe environment to grow beyond their grief. The close bonds created by orphans who have experienced similar sufferings and rejection is powerful. The children learn to bond, play, sing, dance, and encourage each other in the development and expression of their many talents.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Agape has grown from one home with six children in 2004 to seven homes with more than 260 children today. Over the years we have also grown in learning the most effective ways to provide affordable, quality care, clothing, food, etc. for the children.
Agape's school has also grown! Beginning with two rooms and small chalk pads, the school is now a 32 room building with a computer lab, science lab, stocked library and audio/visual room. There is even a nursery for the babies and toddlers!
Agape's effectiveness in caring for children orphaned by/living with HIV, school that educates in English and children's home have gained a reputation in the community. We are respected by medical providers who not only refer people to us, but provide us with quality care for the children. We attract teachers and house parents and are honored in the community not only for our work caring for the poor, but as employers and contributors to the local economy.
Our professional staff, board and US officers bring vast expertise in non-profit, business, medical, and education. Through them, we provide additional expertise and support needed to generate funds that are maximized to reach our goals efficiently and effectively.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Over the years Agape has had many successes!
1) Seven HIV positive infants have transition to HIV negative under our care. Three HIV positive babies in the nursery are being cared for and will be tested when they reach 30 months.
2) Twenty five students graduated from the Agape school in 2020.
3) Agape is supporting 29 high school graduates through college in 2020, including Agape's first female Engineering student!
4) Five girls received Business Commerce Degrees in in 2019, and one boy graduated with a degree in Engineering. We have students who have gone onto an MBA program, chemical engineering and computer science.
5) 235 students are being educated at the Agape school.
6) There are numerous children who would not be alive today because of the treatments they have received for HIV, TB and other medical issues under Agape's care. Please contact us and hear their stories!
