To inform and educate the public about backcountry avalanche conditions in the greater Lake Tahoe area.

The Sierra Avalanche Center provides a free daily backcountry avalanche forecast for the Sierra and Carson Mountain Ranges from Yuba Pass (CA Hwy 49) south to Donner Summit (CA Hwy 80) and Mt Rose Summit (NV Hwy 431), Echo Summit (CA Hwy 50), Luther Pass (CA Hwy 89), Carson Pass (CA Hwy 88) and Bear Valley (CA Hwy 4).

Backcountry Avalanche Forecast

The Sierra Avalanche Center provides a free daily backcountry avalanche forecast for the central Sierra Region from Yuba Pass in the north to Bear Valley in the south.

Free avalanche awareness presentations for entry level backcountry users.

Sierra Avalanche Center is offering free snowmobile specific avalanche education again this year. This is a free course with a two hour evening presentation for classroom learning and a full field day to put this knowledge into practice. Topics covered will include: how to read and understand the avalanche advisory, avalanche terrain identification, managing risk while riding in avalanche terrain, and avalanche companion rescue.

Participants in the field session need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills. A modern avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, and helmet are required equipment for the field session and must be provided by the participant.
