Mission

GenerationEngage is needed both by politicians who might otherwise write off young people, and by non-college youth who might otherwise write off the American political process as irrelevant to their lives. We facilitate the cost-effectiveness of, and the ease with which, politicians and young people engage one another.
GenerationEngage employs (fulltime) young social entrepreneurs who have a specific vision - and plan to achieve that vision - for the change they want to effect within a given community. We use innovative technology to make it cost-effective and efficient for young people and politicians to communicate in the places young people already hang out. We promote volunteerism, and make politics fun and social for young Americans.

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Engagement Forums: GenerationEngage partners with local HotSpots -- social venues where young people in a given community congregate socially (pool halls, cyber cafes, community centers, places of worship, etc.) -- to provide a venue for our members to gather and connect with civic leaders. These events allow political leaders to vie for young voters' support as they should: face-to-face and not over the airwaves.

Innovative use of videoconference as a tool for democracy: GenGage connects its local forums among multiple cities and local HotSpots, through videoconference technology, leveraging one event into many. Members, gathered at Engagement Forums can hear from and ask questions of prominent political figures, via Megameetings's videoconference technology. For politicians, these forums open cost-effective channels of communication between politicians and young voters.

Engagement Partnerships: Through partnerships with community organizations that have already established roots in a given community, GenerationEngage is able to better build ties with communities. Coordinating its efforts with local partners focused on local issues, GenerationEngage integrates political engagement into the efforts of its Engagement Partners.

VideoCast Center: GenerationEngage events can be viewed at the GenerationEngage.org VideoCast Center. As a recipient of a Google Grant, GenerationEngage receives free sponsored links on the Google search engine, prompting thousands of videocast downloads from our website each day. The VideoCast Center allows users to stage side-by-side "virtual debates," e-mail videos to
friends, respond through blogs, and download videos to iPods and other mobile devices.
