Shabbat Services and Dinners

Friday nights at Indiana University Hillel are full of friends, laughter, good food, and celebration! Directly following three separate services: Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox, a free Shabbat dinner draws in IU’s Jewish students. They are greeted by the aroma of freshly baked challah, hot matzah ball soup, and a delicious home cooked meal. From planning services and meals, baking challah, and welcoming new faces, our students are directly involved, take pride in, and learn leadership skills through all aspects of every Shabbat celebration.
• 32 Shabbat dinners/academic year
• 96 Shabbat services/academic year
• 100-400 students every week
Shabbat at Hillel is a meaningful experience that students claim is their favorite way to wind down from a stressful academic week and build a strong, welcoming Jewish community on campus.
