What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Our communities are torn apart by division and strife. The way we speak is both the problem and the solution. Clean Speech Illinois is a multi-year, community-wide education and awareness campaign to unite us in the practice of Jewish mindful speech, to build a more positive, respectful, and peaceful world.

Positive Speech Project

Judaism places great emphasis on using our speech in a positive way. Today society, and especially college students and young professionals, who are continuously connected to social media, are exposed to increasingly negative and harmful speech. At the same time, as Jews become increasingly disconnected from authentic Torah ideas and the uniqueness of being Jewish, it is becoming increasingly difficult to reach these students. The Positive Speech Project aims to positively impact the way students communicate and to connect to a wide spectrum of students in a non-threatening way.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To provide Jewish college students and young professionals in Illinois with the best resources needed to make informed choices about their Jewish life and their contribution to the Jewish people, giving them added meaning and purpose to their lives.

We provide college students and young professionals with meaningful, relevant, and fun Jewish education. We offer innovative courses, one-on-one learning, and phenomenal trips. Our students are empowered to make informed decisions about their Jewish identity while meeting like-minded students. The JET couples in Chicago and Champaign provide a warm and accepting atmosphere, and delicious home-cooked meals.

Our greatest strength is our staff, who are non-judgmental, passionate and dedicated to the well-being of each and every one of our students. That is why I like to say: "Our students get JET."

JET has a great track record. Founded by Rabbi Zev Kahn in the Fall of 2005, JET launched its programming on Chicago campuses with the Maimonides Leaders Fellowship, an intensive 10 week crash course in Judaism. Since then, JET has graduated more than 300 very satisfied students from this amazing fellowship. We have expanded to many other campuses, most notably U of I in Champaign. We also have a strong young professional program here in Chicago. Thousands of students in the last 12 years have been impacted by JET. JET has had a great 2017. I'm particularly excited about the Positive Speech Project. There is so much negativity our young Jewish adults are facing, especially in college. The Positive Speech Project is JET's way of improving communication in a meaningful way. Our first group just completed the program in Champaign. This is going to be my major focus in 2018 and I hope to take it nationally and internationally. Take a look at www.positivespeechproject.com
