Mission

Yellowstone Nature Connection (YNC) is dedicated to connecting young people and adults to the role of fire and natural wonders of the Yellowstone Area.

Our Mission can be expanded to include adults who have not experienced the outdoors as children, but want to experience it as adults. We create programs for families to come together and learn about fire, ecology, and nature in a non-threatening environment.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Junior Smokejumper

The Junior Smokejumper program sparks an interest in the role of fire in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem and an appreciation for the forest.

We do this by teaching about fire ecology, fire propagation, the tools and gear of a smokejumper, the physical fitness of the program, and then dressing up as a smokejumper and jumping out of a mock fuselage. Lastly, they pledge to be a good smokejumper and get a goodie bag.

We focus on fire ecology because of the 1988 Fires had a profound impact on the Greater Yellowstone Area. These fires lead us to understanding their role in the ecosystem. Therefore, we learn how we can live in harmony with the land.
