The Local Church
TWO CHURCHES, ONE HEART
Grace Church in Titanyen and Hope Church in Cite Soleil are more than local congregations–they are the spiritual backbone to all the work we do in their communities. Grace and Hope Churches are Haitian-led, volunteer-driven, and committed to faithfully serving two of the most vulnerable populations in Haiti.
ElderCare
DIGNITY FOR THE ELDERLY
We believe in daily care and companionship for seniors living in Haiti. For many seniors in Haiti they have out lived their own children and now are orphaned elderly. Unable to work, they have become some of the most vulnerable. We have committed to providing food, medical care, and dignity. Everyday.
Medical Care
HOPE CLINIC (CITE SOLEIL) & GRACE CLINIC (TITANYEN)
Healing Haiti’s Clinics provide essential, life-giving services to about 2,000 Haitians who would otherwise not have access to health care. Both clinics are staffed by Haitian medical professionals and supported by a U.S.-based Medical Advisory Board.
MATERNAL HEALTH CARE
Haiti has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the Western Hemisphere. Our Maternal Heath Care Program resourced over 3,000 mothers last year by providing assessment, education, and resources like ultrasounds, labs, and medication. Learn more about our Maternal Healthcare Program, including how you can support Haitian women (and their children) through monthly sponsorship.
CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING
Despite being largely preventable through gynecological exams and timely vaccinations, cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths of women in Haiti. Grace Clinic provides HPV screening (a precursor to cervical cancer) and lab analysis.
Education
Healing Haiti operates its schools among two of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in Haiti, believing we serve a God who is especially interested in those forgotten by the world.
For many children living in Haiti, receiving an education is an impossible dream:
Haiti ranks 177 our of 186 countries in government investment in education.
Families must pay for their child’s education (80% of Haitians live on less than $2/day)
The rate of children who reach secondary school is only 20%.
.
Healing Haiti’s Grace Academy is one of the best-resourced schools in Haiti, offering faith-based hope to children living in Titanyen. Grace Academy emphasizes the development of creative and critical thinking skills and provides students with a state-of-the-art innovation lab which introduces them to coding and other app-based learning opportunities.
.
And it’s paying off: ninety-three percent of our 2020-21 students passed to their next grade.
ChildCare
Every Child Deserves A Home
Eighty percent of Haitian children living in orphanages have a living parent. Unfortunately, many parents are economically unable to care for their children and are feel compelled to entrust their children to orphanages, which are largely unregulated. Our job creation initiatives and partnership with organizations like Lumos help resource Haitian parents, making long-term parent/child reunification possible.
In cases where parent/child reunification is not possible, our family-style homes at Grace Village provide a safe place for children to thrive. These homes are staffed by live-in “mommies” and “daddies” who provide a true sense of family through shared meals, spiritual encouragement, deep love, and (when necessary) loving correction.
Water
CLEAN WATER FOR CITE SOLEIL
Most of us take access to clean water for granted; in Haiti, clean water is a luxury:
Close to 70% of Haitians do not have direct access to clean water.
Only 24% have access to a toilet
Diseases like cholera and typhoid run rampant in communities using contaminated water
In Cite Soleil (the poorest place in the Western Hemisphere), the statistics are only more horrifying. Residents have no access to plumbing and are dependent on for-profit companies sending trucks in to their community to sell water.
For 14 years, Healing Haiti has been delivering over 10,000 gallons of free and clean water into Cite Soleil everyday, six days a week.
Our water truck ministry has allowed us to build trust with the residents of Cite Soleil. This trust has resulted in the establishment of Hope Church, Hope Academy, Hope Clinic, Elder Care, and Job Creation initiatives.
Food
FIGHTING FOOD INSECURITY
3.7 million Haitians live in need of urgent food assistance.
Many organizations are committed to feeding the hungry, but the 325,000 meals we served in 2020 were 100% locally-sourced (including fresh produce from our 30-acre farm). That’s because we are committed not only to providing a hand-out, but also a hand-up. The food served at our two feeding centers (Cite Soleil and Titanyen) helps nourish bodies and create jobs. The recipients of our food include:
Students at Hope and Grace Schools
Members of our Elder Care Program
Ministry Partners (including orphanages)
Job Creation
FLERI RESTAURANT • FLERI BAKERY • FLERI FARMS
Job Creation is a primary way we aim to break the cycle of poverty and elevate Haitian families.
Job creation not only offers dignity, a deeper sense of self-worth, and hope to indivdivual families; it strengthens entire communities, charting a path for a better tomorrow.
· Job Creation is more than just about the numbers. It’s about the individuals impacted by the jobs, creating economic stability for themselves, their families and their communities.
· It’s about individuals using their God give talents to participate in the local economy and in turn the investment of their families and communities.
· Job Creation in Haiti is about seeing families stay together, unified, and flourishing to create a stronger more robust Haiti.
· Job Creation develops and instills dignity, self-worth, and hope
· Job Creation has the power to life communities out of poverty and empower them to craft a path forward for a better tomorrow.
Local Sourcing
Why local sourcing?
Like most places in the developing world, Haiti has experienced the dark side of international aid. Decades of importing food, clothing, and other items into Haiti has contributed to a culture of dependance and a weakened economy. At Healing Haiti, we believe that breaking the cycle of poverty requires investing in Haiti through local sourcing. This involves:
Investing in low and middle-income jobs
Purchasing food at through Haitian markets and vendors
Hiring Haitian workers to build and maintain physical structures
Leveraging short-term missions to foster relationships that encourage (rather than rob) Haitians of opportunities to work and serve
Supporting local jobs by refraining from bringing “free stuff” into Haiti
