Anicira is working to end pet homelessess and medically unnecessary euthanasia. Helping under-served pets and the individuals and families who love them is an essential part of Anicira's mission.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Spay/Neuter

Anicira is committed to ending the unnecessary euthanasia of cats and dogs. Our experienced and compassionate surgical team provides high quality, affordable spay and neuter services. We utilize the highest standards of care to ensure the safety and comfort of each pet during his or her stay at the clinic. Anicira also offers affordable vaccinations and other preventive care services at the time of surgery.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Established in 2005, the fund was inspired by a dog named Aidan and the people who rescued him from a life on a chain. The fund subsidizes the cost of spay/neuter surgeries for dogs residing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County whose families could otherwise not afford the procedures.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Anicira offers subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes residing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, VA. The program was developed in response to the high number of Pit Bulls entering regional shelters, leaving more and more of these dogs to be euthanized without ever knowing the warmth of a home or the love of a family.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Anicira offers subsidized spays and neuters for pet parents who would otherwise be unable to afford the surgery for their cats.  This program includes assisting colony caretakers with the cost of having their feral cats spayed and neutered. This service is funded by private donations.

Population(s) Served
Adults

The pet food pantry provides nutritious meals for hundreds of pets in our community each month.  This safety net program is designed to help pets and families stay together.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Anicira is committed to serving animals and our community through veterinary services, education, outreach, shelter, care and protection programs to help animals live healthy lives in a safe environment.

The strategies for accomplishing long term goals include strengthening outreach and engagement activities and identifying the pets most at risk of not receiving veterinary care. This includes reaching out to individuals and families unlikely to seek assistance on their own as well as increasing access to affordable veterinary care.

Anicira has an experienced and compassionate staff including highly-skilled veterinary surgeons and doctors.

Long-term partnerships with over a hundred non-profit animal welfare organizations support the mission.

Anicira takes steps to provide the best possible care for every cat and dog who enters our doors. While our mission remains firmly grounded in ending companion animal suffering, our reputation and achievements demonstrate significant progress and growth since opening in 2005.
