Mission

The museum is the perfect mixture of history, science, and math with the duel combination of surveying and Science on a Sphere (R). The museum tells the story of how surveying played an integral role in the development of America, American life, and leading Americans. Being in the home of Lincoln, the museum preserves the surveying legacy of Abraham Lincoln. The museum uses this history to educate the public on how important surveying is to them, and to explain how surveying affects them today. Then with the Science on a Sphere (R), the museum shows the future of surveying and the importance of our planet. With this combination, the museum hopes to raise awareness for the importance of surveying along with history, math, and science.

The National Museum of Surveying purpose is to educate the general public on the history of the profession of surveying by offering a variety of exhibits and artifacts. Population(s) Served

The Science on a Sphere is our marquee exhibit for students, as this exhibit shows the world at a truly unique perspective. With only 60 in the world, the 68 inch dynamic globe shows Earth system data in 360 degrees. At the museum, the museum tailors the presentation for the curriculum of teachers. Also, the SOS can be truly unique as a presentation tool for students' projects, as they can create their own datasets for the globe. Finally, we incorporate the globe into local events and holidays.
