Program on Monitoring Emerging Diseases
The Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED) is an Internet-based reporting system dedicated to rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases and acute exposures to toxins that affect human health, including those in animals and in plants grown for food or animal feed. Electronic communications enable ProMED to provide up-to-date and reliable news about threats to human, animal, and food plant health around the world, seven days a week.
By providing early warning of outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging diseases, public health precautions at all levels can be taken in a timely manner to prevent epidemic transmission and to save lives.
ProMED is open to all sources and free of political constraints. Sources of information include media reports, official reports, online summaries, local observers, and others. Reports are often contributed by ProMED subscribers. A team of expert human, plant, and animal disease moderators screen, review, and investigate reports before posting to the network. Reports are distributed by email to direct subscribers and posted immediately on the ProMED web site. ProMED currently reaches over 100,000 subscribers in at least 100 countries.
A central purpose of ProMED is to promote communication amongst the international infectious disease community, including scientists, physicians, epidemiologists, public health professionals, and others interested in infectious diseases on a global scale. ProMED encourages subscribers to participate in discussions on infectious disease concerns, to respond to requests for information, and to collaborate together in outbreak investigations and prevention efforts. ProMED also welcomes the participation of interested persons outside of the health and biomedical professions.
ProMED is also available in several languages and as regional networks:
o ProMED-PORT (Portuguese language posts focusing on Latin America)
o ProMED-ESP (Spanish language posts focusing on Latin America)
o ProMED-RUS (Russian language posts focusing on the independent states of the former Soviet Union)
o ProMED-MBDS (English language posts focusing on the Mekong Basin region of Southeast Asia)
o ProMED-FRA (French language posts focusing on Francophone Africa)
o ProMED-EAFR (English language posts focusing on Anglophone Africa)
o ProMED-MENA (English language posts focusing on the Middle East)
o ProMED- SoAs (English language posts focusing on South Asia)

ISID Knowledge Exchange & E-Learning Platform (IKEEP)
The ISID Knowledge Exchange & E-Learning (IKEEP) is an online resource that shares open-access educational modules, webinars, and interactive discussions. ISID’s new online learning environment focuses on sharing evidence-based information for infectious disease management, control and prevention in resource-limited settings.
The content hosted on IKEEP serves as an enduring education resource for practitioners around the globe with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. Launched in October 2020, IKEEP shares critical infectious disease knowledge covering a range of global infectious disease priorities and provides content focused on career development and leadership skill-building.
International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID)
The International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID) is the official publication of ISID.
It offers open access to peer-reviewed infectious diseases research, case reports, and clinical trial updates covering epidemiology, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and control of infectious diseases. In addition, it seeks to enhance the reader’s understanding of the medical and cultural factors that affect infectious diseases and provides insight into their prevention, treatment, and management.
An open access publishing fee payable by research authors or research funders, enables the Journal to be published online each month for no subscription fee, making it available to infectious disease researchers and clinicians throughout the world, irrespective of their location or resources.
