Mission

In New Jersey, 33,623 people were living with HIV at the end of 2006, according to the most recent report by the state Department of Health and Senior Services.Since the beginning of HIV surveillance, Passaic County has ranked #3 in New Jersey for persons living with HIV/AIDS. The City of Paterson represents approximately 69% of all persons living with HIV/AIDS in Passaic County. In 2007, in Passaic County alone, there were 3,989 cases of AIDS and an additional 1,415 people diagnosed as HIV+. CAPCO provides counseling, support groups, housing assistance, transportation assistance, assistance with medication, and outreach to youth and people throughout Passaic County on prevention of HIV/AIDS and sexually-transmitted diseases. CAPCO is considered the information hub for HIV/AIDS in Bergen and Passaic Counties.

CAPCO provides services through three
main streams of funding:
* New Jersey Prevention Services,
* Ryan White Services, and Housing
* Opportunities for People with AIDS Services. New Jersey Prevention Services:
This includes outreach to the community through group Presentations and street outreach, plus Individual Level Interventions, including HIV Education and Risk reduction skills building done individually. Health Education/Risk Reduction (HE/RR) a.k.a. Interventions Delivered to Groups, utilize CDC-approved an effective behavioral intervention curriculum that leads to healthier relationships..
Prevention Case Management (PCM) a.k.a. Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services provides intensive, on-going individual assessment that leads to risk reduction plan of action.
Ryan White Services:
Medical Case Management - Coordination and linkage to medical services, durable medical supplies. Medical education about disease process and medical management strategies and treatment adherence, etc.
Non-Medical Case Management - Coordination and linkage to support services (housing, food, benefits, entitlements, etc.) with the intent of increasing access to and maintaining engagement in medical care.
Housing Opportunities for People with Aids Services:

Case Management - Coordination and linkage to support services (housing, food, benefits, entitlements, etc.) with the intent of stabilizing housing and engagement in medical care.
Short-term and long-term rental assistance
Assistance with utilities, such as gas, electric, and water
Food Assistance, by providing food vouchers to local supermarkets
Transportation services, such as taxi rides and one and 2-zone bus tickets
Legal Services
Emergency Housing - emergency shelter. In 2007, CAPCO provided services to more than 700 people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS disease.
