What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Hospice, Palliative Care, Bereavement Support, Educational Programs, Home-based Primary Care

We are the largest provider of hospice care, palliative support and bereavement programs in the Commonwealth, and have delivered expert compassionate care to tens of thousands of terminally ill patients and their families since 1978. We currently serve more than 1,400 patients each day across 95 eastern Massachusetts communities wherever patients live – private homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, or hospitals. Our two in-patient units can support up to 38 patients for whom home care is not possible or for home care patients in need of hospital-level symptom stabilization without incurring a costly hospital re-admittance.

Our staff of over 620 delivers care and specialized clinical programs for patients with chronic conditions such as advanced dementia, cardiac and respiratory diseases. We also provide programs tailored to the needs of adults with developmental disabilities, veterans, the LGBTQ community and members of all faiths. We address the multiple and intertwined needs of our patients by creating holistic care plans that address the clinical, psycho-social, and spiritual needs of our patients and families with both clinical and non-invasive therapies. Programs include complementary therapies (such as pet, music and creative therapies; massage and reiki) palliative care, pastoral and bereavement support, professional and community education programs, and companioning support from a cadre of 460 volunteers.
